Surroundings
Campiglia (10 km far from San Vincenzo)
In this village of val di Cornia, with its typical streets, steep and narrow, with vistas of alleys and stone-houses, you will able to admire the characteristic buildings of this ancient medieval town: la Rocca, the Praetorian Palace, the Romanic Parish Church of St. Johan. In the neighbourhood the "Terme of Caldana" and the Archaeological Park of San Silvestro (info: tel. 0565/838680).
Elba (60 min. far from Piombino seaport)
You can reach easily the Island from the seaport in Piombino (only 25 Km far from Follonica and San Vincenzo): every 30 minutes you will find a ferryboat. If you prefer, you can park your car in a garage in Piombino. In Portoferraio, don�t forget to visit the Napoleonic Museum, and to bask in the sun in the wonderful beach of white pebbles of �Le Ghiaie�, just near the centre of the town.
Firenze (135 km far from San Vincenzo)
Follow the SS1 direction Livorno, till the motorway A12 direction Genova. At the exit of Vicarello, follow the SSGC to Firenze.
S. Galgano Abbey (45 km far from Follonica)
This gothic Abbey (XIII sec.) is well preserved, but without the ceiling, which has gone lost. In fact during the XVI sec. the lead roofing was sold and the roof started to ruin. The Abbey is often centre for concerts of classic music and in these occasions is really fascinating. How to reach: from the exit Follonica est, follow the SS439 towards Massa Marittima, than the SS441 direction Siena. At the fork with the SS73 carry on the right for several Km towards Monticiano and you will find the way on the street.
Massa Marittima (15 km far from Follonica)
From the exit of Follonica est near SS1, you must follow the SS439 for about 15 Km. You arrive to �Piazza del Duomo� where you can admire the Cathedral of S. Cerbone (XI sec.). This medieval square is the heart of this vital and pleasant village, which, in the summer evenings, offers many cultural proposals, from theatre to jazz music. Not to lose "il Balestro del Girifalco", a medieval performance with more than 150 figures, which recall to the art of the cross-bow: at the end of May (for S. Bernardino) and the second Sunday of August.
Pisa (70 km far from San Vincenzo)
Follow the SS1 direction Livorno till the motorway A12 direction Genova. At the exit of Vicarello, follow the SS67 to Pisa.
Saturnia (100 km far from Follonica)
This area is rich of thermal sources: you can choose to plunge at the foot of the waterfalls (in photo), near the ancient mill, or to grant yourself a tonic massage in the Thermal Complex (direct access to the swimming-pool for payment). You should also visit the Necropoli del Puntone: its graves are the evidence of the Etruscan origins of this place. You can reach it following the SS1 direction Grosseto, exit Grosseto sud, than SS322, direction Scansano/Manciano.
Siena (60 km far from Follonica)
From the exit of Follonica est, follow the SS439 towards Massa Marittima, than the SS441 direction Siena.
Suvereto (18 km far from San Vincenzo)
Medieval town in the heart of Val di Cornia. Not to lose: summer in Suvereto (medieval dinner with typical products) and the festival of wild boar (first week of December). During these appointments you can get pleasure from the characteristic foods in typical taverns, or you can buy it directly at the street stalls.
Volterra (65 km far from San Vincenzo)
Piazza dei Priori, with its severe palaces, is probably one of the most beautiful square in Italy. Following the SS1 direction Livorno, till Cecina, than the S439, you will reach Volterra; take time to visit the picture-gallery, with works from XIV till XVII sec., and the Etruscan Museum. Nearby you shouldn�t forget to visit le balze, spectacular and impressive natural wonder.
Terme di Venturina (9 km far from San Vincenzo)
Bathe in the ancient bath to 36 degrees to the insignia of the comfort and the imaginary one. Crossing the speedway Livorno-Grosseto take the exit S.Vincenzo Sud and follow the street Aurelia (SS1) in direction Grosseto - Rome. Once overcome the fraction Lumiere, before entering the country of Venturina, on the left the Thermal baths will appear.
